Former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski and former European Parliament President Pat Cox talked to former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in hospital in Kharkiv for about two hours, and the guests also had a conversation with the security guards of the Kachanivska Penal Colony, the press office of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine has reported.
The members of the European Parliament's delegation, before meeting with Tymoshenko, had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with all facilities of the hospital unit in which the ex-premier is undergoing treatment.
"Following the meeting, representatives of the European Parliament expressed their gratitude to the leadership of Kachanivska Penal Colony and Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 for the opportunity they provided. The visitors made no comments, remarks or complaints to the leadership of the penal or medical institution," the press office said.
As reported, Cox and Kwasniewski started monitoring the court proceedings involving former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on June 11, 2012 under an agreement between Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and European Parliament President Martin Schulz.
Their mandate was subsequently expanded to include the court proceedings involving former Interior Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko and former Acting Defense Minister of Ukraine Valeriy Ivaschenko. Their work was suspended when parliamentary elections began in Ukraine and was then restarted.
The diplomats refused to talk to reporters after visiting Tymoshenko on Tuesday.
